Method 2: Catch People Doing Things Right
Whenever you see an employee doing something right, say, “CAUGHT-YA!”
A “CAUGHT-YA!” Program is one of the great ways you can show “Your Employees Are Just as Important as Your Customers,” and it’s a great way to encourage them to continue to perform this activity.
The Program is simple but very effective:
1. Any employee can catch any other employee doing things right.
2. The employee that witnesses someone else doing things right fills out a “CAUGHT-YA” Form (see Figure 27.1) and puts it in the “CAUGHT-YA” box, which is located in a designated area of the business.
3. Every month, a designated manager goes through the “CAUGHT-YA” Forms and selects the best “CAUGHT-YA’s.”
4. The “CAUGHT-YAs” are rewritten on Super Star Award Certificates (see Figure 27.2) and posted on the employee bulletin board.
5. At the end of the month, the “CAUGHT-YA” employee is presented the Award Certificate when all of his fellow employees are present.
Now what do you think happens?
Simple . . . people love to be caught. It feeds their ego. So they start doing things right. When they’re caught, they do more things right, because they love the attention they receive. It’s contagious. It’s the one disease that you want everyone to catch.
Now you have the two best methods that I have ever seen to get the 95 Percenters to perform up to the level you want them to. Obviously each of these methods works independently of the other, but as you can imagine, when you implement them both, they work even better.
